Angela Smith MP was elected to her seat as an MP on the basis of her membership to the labour party. Having resigned from the labour party local constituents are entitled to a by election. This is especially important given that she has failed to support the policies on which she gained her seat for example, by supporting the privatisation of water. In addition, her recent comment about people 'with a funny tinge' clearly indicates worrying views that the MP has about minority groups. Her position is therefore untenable and the honourable steps to take would be to resign her seat and contest her seat in parliament with a byelection.
