"ANG KABATAAN ANG PAG-ASA NG BAYAN"
The Issue
"ANG KABATAAN ANG PAG-ASA NG BAYAN"
As we face numerous challenges with our political system and our unruly justice system, this is no longer a topic to turn a blind eye. The rise of artifical intelligence, Pax Silica, the West Philippine Sea dispute, political corruption, and the impeachment, etc. continues to suppress Filipinos' rights and voices.
Through this petition, we are calling for greater awareness and active efforts to empower the Filipino youth to become more politically aware, most especially in our current alarming situation and even more in the future.
We encourage schools, youth organizations, and local leaders to support programs such as:
1. Political Literacy: A fun activity where the youth are exposed to political lessons and are taught to be more aware of the news.
2. Media Information Literacy: A non-negotiable and vital subject that should be taught for the youth to know how to differ misinformation from disinformation, to fact-check certain posts and their sources, etc.
3. Mock Elections: By giving the youth a safe space to discuss real community issues and practice governance.
4. Voter & Rights Education: Helping young people understand their rights—whether a simple understanding of it—and the power of their votes.
5. Community Leadership & Volunteering: Encouraging youth to participate in local barangay or Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) initiatives, etc.
We are not asking the youth to become politicians. We are asking young Filipinos to stay curious, to ask questions, to always fact-check what they read, to respect different views, and most importantly, to care about the future of our country.
Kaya pa sa sinabi ni Dr. Jose Rizal, "Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan." The youth may be young, but our voices matter. We deserve the truth, we deserve justice, and most of all, we deserve a country that we can be proud of.
We invite students, teachers, youth leaders, and members of the community to support this petition and help spread awareness about the importance of youth political empowerment.
