AGL CSG WELLS ALONG THE NEPEAN RIVER FLOODED?

AGL have drilled 20 coal seam gas wells alongside the Nepean River and upper canal which carries drinking water from Nepean Dam to Prospect Reservoir. 15 of these wells have been hydraulically fractured.​ One well is just 40m from the river After the flooding event in NSW over the weekend this is of huge concern. The National Water Commission has stated that coal seam gas mining risks have "significant, long-term and adverse impacts" on water resources.​ The "International Journal of Human and Ecological Risk Assessment" focused solely on the effect hydraulic fracturing has on drinking water. It included statements explaining that "fluids migrated unpredictably through different rock layers, and to greater distances than previously thought". "Benzene (a carcinogenic) in particular, remains in the ground after drilling and is “likely to be transported by groundwater."​ Sydney Water Catchment supplies water to 3.5 million residents in Greater Sydney. AGLs coal seam gas mining alongside the Nepean river puts this water at risk of contamination by carcinogenic chemicals and volatile organic compounds.​ All 96 of AGLs coal seam gas wells need to be shut down now.
