It is time to put forward a new UMP for the Remsen to Lake Placid Travel Corridor that maximizes its potential for economic benefits to the Adirondack communities by providing a four- season multi- use trail from Big Moose to Lake Placid by removing the rails. Since 1996, snowmobile clubs and the New York State Snowmobile Association has held a revocable permit to operate the C7 snowmobile trail on the Adirondack Railroad Travel corridor consistent with the 1996 Remsen to Lake Placid Travel Corridor Unit Management Plan.  The snowmobile community reluctantly supported the 2015 Unit Management Plan amendment which was challenged by the railroad community and dismissed by the court.  Since that time the railroad corridor has deteriorated substantially and it is now more apparent than ever that the maintenance needs of the corridor have been neglected by the Adirondack Scenic Railroad.  The undersigned urge the DOT and DEC to prepare and advance the appropriate UMP amendment that will lead to the removal of the rails from Big Moose Station to Lake Placid.
