Just a bit of clarity as there seems to be some manufactured confusion surrounding this piece of legislation:
The Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York is NOT calling for a veto of the Weprin/Mongomeery, "Adoptee Rights" original birth certificate( OBC) access bill (S3419 / A5494). The Coalition not only supports OBC access, but invested in it's passing and will celebrate its enactment! We are looking forward to the Governor signing the OBC bill. This petition has nothing to do with adult adoptees access their documents.
S4203A is a different bill dealing with a different issue; court orders granting contact post TRP in foster care. THIS is the bill that we oppose and would like the Governor to veto.
We are sorry for the confusion, but we cannot control if New York State has more than one relevant bill pending each session. There were several we were watching.
