4-year-old Luz Gonzalez was dead after being run over by an SUV just very recently.
The woman driving the SUV was 38-year-old Jeannette Maria. As she was driving off, Luz's mother, Reyna Candia, had stopped and bent down to tie her daughter's shoe. It was then that Jeannette had run over both Luz and Reyna. Reyna was injured but alive only to see her daughter dead at the scene.
Jeannette was later pulled over by police and moments after she had claimed she hadn’t known what she had done. With that said, the police ruled it as an accident. Jeanette's brother works for the NYPD and had threatened to call ICE on Gonzalez family if they pressed charges. Because of the threat, the Gonzalez's are afraid to fight for their only daughter's death. And since there had been a lack of legal action, Jeannette Maria was uncharged with murder and injury.
Some residents of Bushwick had planned to gather around where the incident had occurred, then march to the 83rd precinct to pray in memory of Luz Gonzalez.
No mother should have to be scared to fight for their daughter, to love their daughter. Please help sign this petition to help bring justice.
