The state governments parramatta light rail route proposes to run through several historic sites of Parramatta including the total demolition of the 180 year old Royal Oak Hotel on Church street.
The walls of the 180-year-old pub would be filled to capacity for every game at the former Parramatta Stadium — be it for the Eels or Western Sydney Wanderers — but the days of the iconic pub are numbered.
A year from now, or possibly less, the hotel is set to be flattened to make way for the Parramatta Light Rail, which will run from the CBD down Church St and on to the Westmead precinct.
We call on the government to revise the route to not destroy this community loved family Hotel. Their are other routes that would service the new Western Sydney Stadium crowds better.
The light rail project expects to be declared a project of state significance, effectively negating any requirement to comply with the heritage act.
Just another piece of Parramatta soul up for sale - sign now to show that community voice counts and that our Royal Oak Hotel must stay.
