The U.K. Government must act to close down the domestic market in ivory. The African elephant is on target to be extinct in 20 years. This is not an alarmist view but an accurate forecast based on current poaching levels. Thousands of ivory products are on sale in the UK which sends a terrible message that ivory is a legitimate purchase. Also the UK is a re-exporter of so called 'legal' ivory (31% of the EU) to other markets providing a loop hole for criminal gangs to exploit. The USA has made timely steps to end ivory trading. The U.K. must join them by making a clear announcement on closing their domestic market. They must also fight for closure of ALL countries domestic markets to end international trafficking when attending the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species on September 24th, in JUST 5 DAYS. If we can't save an iconic species like the African Elephant, then what hope have other species? Please help.
