If Ancestry were submitting an ethnicity white paper for a research-methods class, they would fail on the following criteria: 

  1. Random sampling
  2. Attempts to get groups of at least 400 to 1000 for minimum samples, including whichever control group they use
  3. Attempted 1:1 ratios for their groups, including whichever control group they use
  4. Deliberate avoidance of confirmation and selection bias
