Hi Cash Lovers,
Anyone who has read or watched any media stories about cash and digital payments over the last few years will have heard Professor Angel Zhong predict that Australia will be "functionally cashless by 2030."
Angel Zhong invented the phrase "functionally cashless" and says it means that cash will be rarely used but still officially available.
Professor Angel Zhong has been named a "media star" by her employer RMIT for all her media appearances. In 2025 RMIT admitted Angel Zhong to its "Media Star Hall of Fame!"
In a recent social media video, Angel Zhong tells her followers that Mastercard makes it easy to know more about customer's motivations.
Why do so many people who promote or predict a cashless society have links to card companies?
And how does an expert predict a imminent and inevitable cashless Australia when the latest data indicates Aussies are using more cash than three years ago?
The latest RBA Consumer Payments Survey published last month, shows 19 per cent of in-person payments were made using cash in 2025, up from 16 per cent in 2022.
75 per cent of Australians carry cash and the average amount is $65.
The RBA concludes with a fairly clear warning:
"Half of Australians use cash in a typical week and one-third would face hardship or major inconvenience if cash were to become difficult to access."
Enough is enough. Help us stand up for our right to access and use cash. Please share our petition with your friends and social networks.

This campaign is mostly just me and the bills are really high.
I want to keep talking to the media, radio and TV and getting the message out about our right to choose cash - our legal tender.
Please assist me with a small amount to help me cover the bills.
Thanks and yours truly,
Jason Bryce
