Dear Cash Lovers,
The Treasurer Jim Chalmers quietly released his cash mandate regulations on Friday afternoon. Australians have less than two weeks to comment before the rules are finalised.
The proposed cash mandate is NOT a cash mandate!
Jim Chalmers previously promised that cash acceptance would compulsory for all essentials including food, medicine and fuel.
The actual draft regulations limit the mandate to supermarkets and petrol stations ONLY and only up to a limit of $500.
Under these rules, supermarkets only need to have ONE TERMINAL accepting cash to comply with the new rules.
Pharmacies/chemists selling essential medicines are NOT COVERED by the mandate.
Housing, clothing, insurance, utility bills and all the other essentials that we need to buy are NOT COVERED by the proposed cash mandate.
All other retailers can refuse to accept our legal tender, cash, for any payments for any goods or services.

I'm telling Jim Chalmers that:
1) The cash mandate needs to apply to ALL physical retailers.
2) The current proposal leaves out medicines, housing, utility bills and many other essential items we need to LIVE. The cash mandate needs to apply to ALL ESSENTIALS.
3) The current proposal is clearly designed to allow retailers to reject cash payments.
4) Supermarkets need to have at least 50% of their terminals ready to accept cash.
5) The $500 limit is TOO LOW. There's plenty of essential bills we pay that cost more than $500.
