Petition update

We have not given up and it is not too late.

Coalition Against Trafficking in Women International (CATW)

Oct 12, 2015 — Thank you again for signing our petition urging Amnesty International to reject its proposed policy endorsing full decriminalization of the sex trade. However, after much debate at its International Council Meeting in Dublin in August 2015, Amnesty unfortunately passed a resolution to decriminalize pimps, brothel owners and buyers of sex.

We have not given up and it is not too late.

The policy is now in the hands of Amnesty’s International Board for review and adoption of the proposed framework. We still have hope that Amnesty will abide by international law and human rights principles to protect the exploited and hold their exploiters accountable.

Please join this Global Declaration if you fit into the categories of “We, the undersigned…” as described in the text, including:

Members of national, international, regional and grassroots and advocacy organizations that provide frontline services to women who suffer violence and discrimination

Women’s rights activists, feminists, and survivors of prostitution and other forms of sexualized violence

Those who believe that persons sold in prostitution must not be criminalized in any jurisdiction

If you feel you are a member of this group, please join the hundreds of global grassroots activists in signing this Global Declaration by following the ‘Sign On’ link at the bottom of the document.

The public mobilization and media coverage worldwide on this campaign would not have been possible without the outpouring of support we received from you on this petition. Thank you all. We will continue to urge Amnesty International to stand with women and girls, including those exploited in the sex trade.
