We are calling on the government of President Mohammadu Buhari and the security agencies to release, without further delay, Mr. Jones Abiri, who was arrested two years ago and has been in detention ever since. His detention contravenes his human rights and the due process of the law. Nigeria must hold accountable those responsible for Abiri's arrest, including the security service, and send a message that such flagrant abuses against journalists and press freedom will not be tolerated in a democratic Nigeria.

 Please sign the petition so that no one should be detained illegally in Nigeria. There are thousands of Nigerians in prisons and police detentions who have never been charged to court. It is also vital to ensure that the security agencies are held to obey court orders in the event of the anticipated favorable judgment to secure his bail. Your signing this petition will go a long way in not only achieving Jones Abiri's release but in bringing to attention the human rights abuses that the Nigerian government inflicts on ordinary citizens.
