Hi everyone!
It's been 2 years since we petitioned American Girl to release a Girl of the Year who was in a wheelchair like me. Although American Girl never did it, I decided it was more important to tell the story of a girl with a disability myself.
I'm so excited to announce that the book, Mia Lee is Wheeling Through Middle School, has FINALLY been published and is now available on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Mia-Wheeling-Through-Middle-School/dp/0692746900
Mia Lee is a spunky 6th grade girl who loves making stop-motion films and wants to be a movie director. She also happens to be in a wheelchair, like me, but that's definitely not the main point of the story. I hope that all kids will read this book, and know that girls with disabilities are just like them.
More than anything, I hope Mia Lee is Wheeling Through Middle School will show all kids with disabilities that they can be heroes, too.
You can read a preview of the book and buy in on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Mia-Wheeling-Through-Middle-School/dp/0692746900
The book will be launching in Washington DC at the National Youth Transition Center on August 4th at 6pm. If you're in the area, I'd love to meet you in person.
Thank you all for your support these last 2 years, and I hope you enjoy Mia Lee is Wheeling Through Middle School!
Love,
Melissa Shang
