As some of you all may have noticed, the American Counseling Association no longer advertises Betterhelp or Regain (A Betterhelp subsidiary) on it's website! I have been in contact with leadership of the ACA, who confirmed that this petition, as well as member complaints in general, helped them come to the decision to no longer work with Betterhelp. Thank you all for your work on this issue! I also encourage the signers of this petition to become/remain involved in advocacy and leadership for the Counseling profession, particularly when some current leadership decide that it is appropriate to advertise companies like Betterhelp. We can do better, and many of you all would have a lot to contribute in leadership.
I also want to give a huge shout-out in particular to whoever from Nebraska shared this petition. As a Virginian I was very pleasantly surprised to see a huge number of signatures come in from Nebraska suddenly one day. I'm not sure if the Nebraska Counseling Association shared this or some other organization, but the influx that day that really helped us get the numbers up for this petition, so thank you!
I will add that our advocacy related to this issue is continuing, and I have found recently that the American Mental Health Counselors Association continues to advertise Betterhelp and Regain. Although this should certainly be a moment for celebration, I am sure many of you all also share my concerns about the AMHCA continuing to advertise these companies, and I have created a petition here regarding this issue: https://chng.it/tQFdX5D2F2
Thank you all again for your support, and happy holidays.
Sincerely, William Moncure, M.A. In Mental Health Counseling; PsyD candidate.
