Did you hear the news?
Grocery prices going up. Wouldn’t backyard chickens be a significant help to households for fresh source of protein? We keep building housing on our farmland and we have less and less local farms. Memories with family getting local produce at places like Gillespies, Marcys Berries, farm stands used to be a weekly occurrence in our household. There was also a news article lately regarding food that shocked me - food waste at a high due to consumers not understanding what expiration dates mean exactly - causing food to be thrown out while it’s still considered good.
It boggles me we can get our groceries transported from further and further away (not worrying about the pollution) and pay the price for this & the delivered extra costs. We can also change our zoning to build more units/dwellings/people to our lots, but we cannot have a couple chickens in our backyard.
