If rape should be legal on private property then why don’t we just go ahead and make stabbing someone on private property legal as well? I mean you would ‘absolutely not enter a private room with a person who you don’t know or trust’ right? Of course knowing and trusting someone just gives you a little protective bubble doesn’t it, nothing bad could possibly happen to you if you know and trust the person you are with. Well in 2009, 24.2 percent of victims were attacked by family members; 53.8 percent were stabbed by someone they knew (acquaintance, neighbour, friend, boyfriend, etc.) Similarly with rape,
roughly 40% are friends or acquaintances; another 30% are in a relationship with the victim, and 7% are family members. If this doesn’t prove that trusting or knowing a person just simply isn’t enough to guarantee anyones safety I don’t know what will.
Whilst you may feel that comparing rape and stabbing cases is a drastic thing to do I think it just proves the point that just because you think you know and trust someone well doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of rape or anything else for that matter.
As you said, ‘bad accounts are sure to occur’. Reading this made me feel for a moment that maybe you were about to say something vaguely sensible, sadly as I read on I realised I had expected too much from you. Apparently rape victims are to take these ‘bad accounts’ and use them as a ‘learning experience’ because obviously rape victims are ‘poorly trained women’ who need to ‘better identify in the future the type of good man who will treat her like the delicate flower that she believes she is’. I’ll just ignore the comment on the end about being treated like the delicate flower she believes she is. A women much like a man can believe they are whatever they like and if that means they want to be treated with more respect than someone is willing to give then it’s not for them to change and lower their self worth or standards. So if I had just been raped, and lets use the stabbing example again because you might be able to understand that a little more without getting uptight about ‘men being blamed when all they’ve done is raped someone’. If I had just been raped, or stabbed am I supposed to think to myself “whoops my bad, should’ve known they would do that too me, at least next time I might see it coming and not put myself in that situation”. Seems a little bit ridiculous to be perfectly honest. If you have just been made a victim and as I said earlier it’s very likely to be by someone you know, why should you take the blame on your shoulders and think of it as a lesson. I think at this point you would be emotionally/physically in a bad place and I don’t think that taking the ‘learning from your mistakes’ approach is very relevant considering that is very possible that it is not your fault at all.
Apparently, with your idea, ‘women will learn to protect their virtue like "she protects her purse and smartphone”’. Whilst some women may not protect their virtue, many others do protect themselves and if this goes wrong and they end up being the victim of rape then the law is then the only thing protecting them at all. Can I just mention that women are actually humans too. They make human errors just like men and whilst going up to a unknown mans room may be considered and error on her part, if she then does not give her consent then it would seem obvious that she has changed her mind and, just like how a women should respect this decision of a man, the error then falls on the mans part if he decides to continue without her permission.
You may think you know why you get hate and abuse, but if you could possibly just step down for a moment and think about what you are saying and when I say think I mean actually use your brain because that’s what it’s there for, then you might see that your argument is just the slightest bit absurd. (That was sarcasm just to let you know, I’m not sure you would have noticed seeing as you appear rather oblivious to most things
If a man is raped I don’t think he should take it as a learning experience for who he surrounds himself with. Exactly the same for women. End of story.
Whilst I have no doubt you will take no notice of what I have said and I’m sure your views will be no more swayed than ever before at least I can say I tried.
