Hi everyone. I need your help. Last week, a parliamentary committee recommended that doctors assist in the suicide of people with mental illnesses. The government has until June 6 to write new laws about it. If these recommendations pass into law, it would be a horrifying betrayal of our responsibility to those who need us the most. Recovery from mental health problems and illnesses is not just possible, it's likely and expected with the right supports. These issues do not have to be terminal. As you'll read, this is not about end-of-life decision making - that's a completely different issue. This is about realizing that suicide happens to people with mental illnesses because our society fails them when they need help the most. It's about stopping society from failing them further.
