Leg-hold traps are hidden in away with the intent of trapping a specific target.  However, the traps are heinously cruel and are indiscriminate about their targets.  Imagine having your wrist slammed in a car door, broken, with no one to even open the door for days or weeks while you lie in unimaginable pain, vulnerable to every creature living around you.  Coyotes sometimes chew off their feet to try to get away.
