Give Columbiana County, OH a Humane Officer

Unfortunately yesterday I had to report a suspected case of animal abuse to the Ohio SPCA.  Within 24 hours, a volunteer contacted me and was on the property investigating the claim, taking photographs and attempting to contact the owners.  A volunteer was out in the dark cold, inquiring about the animals' welfare.  It was a volunteer, as Columbiana County does not have a humane officer and relies on volunteers to advocate for and protect animal rights.  The volunteer contacted me, and I asked what I could do to aid in the process.  Simply put, she asked me to help campaign for a humane officer for the county.  She encouraged me to contact local officials and media outlets.  I started this petition to raise awareness and support, and will take the petition to whomever will listen.

To show the dire need for a humane officer, I'd like to tell you why I contacted the Ohio SPCA.  My husband and I observed a herd of cattle, huddled together for warmth as the temperature hovered around zero.  These animals had no shelter.  The volunteer reported that they were not given enough hay, and their source of water was from a frozen creek.  One of the cows had broken through the fence to try to drink from the icy creek.  These animals had no shelter, not enough food, and a frozen water source.

Please, consider my petition.  Please share my petition.  Columbiana County has over 107,000 inhabitants and covers over 530 square miles.  It needs a dedicated humane officer.  In the meantime, thank goodness for the dedication and advocacy of the volunteers of the Ohio SPCA, including the kind soul that investigated my claim.  And thank you, a very genuine thank you, for reading and considering my petition.
