Attending Berlin for our Transition Year (TY) school trip has been a cherished tradition at our school for years. Every class before us has had this incredible opportunity, and it has become a foundational part of the TY experience, providing students with a chance to learn, explore, and connect with history and culture beyond our classrooms.
However, this year, due to concerns over potential financial stress on parents, our school has decided to cancel the Berlin trip for the TY 2026 class. If this decision remains unchanged, we will be the only TY students in our county deprived of the enriching experience that past students have cherished and learned from.
Many students and parents are very disappointed that this trip has been cancelled as they have been looking forward to it for quite some time and is an exciting way to end a year full of new experiences, opportunities, and learning.
Let's think of alternatives rather than outright cancellation. Perhaps the school could explore a staggered payment plan, fundraisers, or partnerships with local businesses to alleviate financial pressures on families. This could ensure inclusivity, so no student is left behind due to financial constraints.
We urge the Board Of Management to reconsider their decision and allow the TY 2027 trip to Berlin to go ahead. This experience will create lifelong bonds and inspirations while respecting and responding to genuine financial concerns.
Sign this petition to support our right to take part in a tradition that shapes not just academic understanding, but also personal growth and freedom of thought. Let our voices be heard, and help bridge the gap between tradition and reality.
