Omar Abdulkadir Artan, named the CAF Referee of the Year 2025, made history as the first-ever Somali referee selected to officiate at a men's FIFA World Cup. Despite holding a valid US visa and traveling on a diplomatic passport, he was denied entry by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Miami International Airport due to sudden "vetting concerns". ​With only 48 to 72 hours left before the World Cup kicks off, this is a heartbreaking setback for African football and global sports justice. FIFA claims they cannot intervene in host country immigration, but we demand an emergency review. We call upon the U.S. Department of State and FIFA to grant Omar Artan an emergency waiver.
