Allow Lanele Xabo to build sand castles at Fish Hoek Beach

The Issue

Lanele Xabo has become a beloved fixture in the Fish Hoek community. However, he was recently detained by police for practising his art without a permit. This is despite the fact that he doesn't qualify for a hawkers' permit and accepting voluntary tips without a permit in public spaces is legal in South Africa.

Lanele's sandcastles promote tourism and stimulate the local economy. He's become a landmark for artistic expression and creativity. His work usually has an important social message.

We urge the local authorities and relevant bodies to reconsider the restrictions placed upon sandcastle building on Fish Hoek Beach. Artists like Lanele should have the freedom to express their creative talents and earn an honest living without police harassment.

Join us in petitioning local government to find a reasonable solution that allows Lanele to continue creating his art on our beach for voluntary tips.
