ALLOW CONSENSUAL DIRECT CONTACT BETWEEN ORGAN DONORS FAMILY AND RECIPIENTS
The Issue
This year 2026, my beloved only child daughter passed away suddenly. On life support in ICU. I was informed that my daughter was brain dead. My daughter became an organ donor saving 4 lives.
However, under current laws this barrier has prevented donor families (myself) and recipients to no consensual contact under the human tissue ACT 1982.
We must advocate for amendment for the Human Tissue ACT 1982 to allow direct consensual contact.
This would allow families and recipients to decide for themselves if they wish to meet, or maintain a relationship, ultimately supporting emotional healing and wellbeing across the board.
