Upcoming 2027 atar students have been declined the choice to chose outdoor education as a subject in year 11 and 12. This course has been advertised as a good class to have a break, and is beneficial to mental health for stressed out atar students and now it’s been ripped out from our subject selections. This is particularly unfair because according to outdoor education Australia.org , ATAR students suffer high rates of burnout, anxiety, and screen fatigue. The mandatory field expeditions and time spent in nature significantly decrease cortisol, lower anxiety, and improve emotional regulation. This acts as a regular psychological "reset" that enhances performance in other heavy theoretical classes. Though some students may not be able to handle the workload, it should still be an option and it is completely unfair to remove it.
