I HATE reading or hearing - “just take them home then”
Please don’t comment on something you don’t understand or haven’t taken the time to understand.
What about residents who have been forced into care homes by local authorities because there is little support to help them stsy at home, despite families trying?
What about residents who for some reason have no family?
What about residents whose health needs are so complex that speciality care is needed?
I could go on to be honest but it’s not as easy as just taking them home.
Care homes ARE needed in society I will always advocate that.
What I won’t stand for is residents losing their rights.
Residents can’t get outdoors easily for their mental health like we who live in the community are constantly advised to do so.
Not all but most residents can’t just pick up the phone for facetime or a whatsapp. So they can’t stay connected like we all are.
Residents can’t go for a socially distanced walk.
Husbands and wives can’t create bubbles unlike non cohabiting couples in the community.
Residents did not get to create a christmas bubble.
Residents have rarely had the chance to connect like thise living in the community have!
Families should not be shamed for not being anle to care at home.
Why are we not questioning why care home residents no longer have rights and don’t tell me it’s to keep them safe because that won’t wash anymore. If it was to keep them safe we would not have death’s in care homes!
Let’s get #AnnesLaw in place so care home residents will always have that one person by their side.
My mum is one of those residents without a voice..but I will make sure her story is heard and make a positive change for the future.
