I am doing my best on the joke front but I am a writer not a comedian – I wanted to say I was a lover not a comedian but my wife would not let me!
Following the dreadful news pouring out of the Ukraine concerning the appalling massacre of civilians in a growing number of locations, multiple rapes of innocent women, the destruction of Bucha, the use of chemical weapons in Mariupol and the emergence of the word genocide to describe Russian military actions you may wonder why I started with a joke.
Short answer – Humour is good for the soul especially in the face of adversity. To use a quote from Steve Goodier:-
“Humour can make a serious difference. In the workplace, at home, in all areas of life – looking for a reason to laugh is necessary. A sense of humour helps us to get through the dull times, cope with the difficult times, enjoy the good times and manage the scary times.”
The long answer – This is all tied up in human psychology that I have observed over a long time. Tyrants in all forms, whether in business, politics – local or national – the medical profession or in the military always seem invincible in their various position. Yet in raw form humour is great for bursting the bubble of the pompous and the bully, the lesser leveller one might say.
If applied continuously mockery and derision can erode the strongest foundations, rust the hardest armour, worm its way into a tiny chink, much like water in stone crack that will over time bring down a mighty cliff-face.
Hitler allegedly said: - “Make the lie big. Make it simple. Keep saying it, and eventually people will believe it.”
This earlier lunatic was able to deceive his people long enough to get into absolute power, and then go onto fool most of the world, up until the summer of 1939. Consider where he might have been if before he became really powerful the free press, radio shows and German comedians (as we know German comedians are the funniest in the world!) had levelled jokes at his expense and drawn funny cartoons of him.
Would the massive Nüremberg Nazi rallies held in 1923, 1927, 1929 and then annually from 1933 through to 1938 have been so influential if all those in the audiences, or watching on TV later had, a mental image of Hitler as a poorly dressed, one balled, Bavarian train ticket inspector with a slug under his nose (thanks Blackadder).
The answer would be no.
Recall the fable of the Emperor’s new clothes by Hans Christian Andersen – once someone has been made to look pathetic or absurd they are permanently diminished in our minds.
“Progress is nothing, but the victory of laughter over dogma.” ― Benjamin De Casseres
Our petition is a tiny insignificant speck of protest, as all things start, but it will grow exponentially if we work hard and inform well, and also if we belittle the crim-billionaire Oligarchs who support the corrupt U.S.S.R. (Unprincipled Secretive Savage of Russia) for by our efforts we weaken Putin’s position slowly but surely.
“Words are the most powerful drug used by mankind.” Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)
So lets use our words wisely to belittle then bring down this despot as soon as possible.
These sanctions will damage the Oligarchs, whilst diminishing them in our public’s eyes which will prevent political backsliding. Most importantly, if we force our government to sell the confiscated assets, as we doing with our petition, then they will not be recoverable. An uplifting thought is that when those funds are given to the Ukrainian people the money will be washed clean from its immoral, satanic origins to doing some real good in the Ukraine, where it is most needed.
In my next update normal service will be resumed as I scan the news for confiscations and seizures but tonight I leave you with one last thought: -
“No dictator is more powerful than the people. It's only a matter of waking up - waking up to recognize the harms done to the nation.”
― Abhijit Naskar, Neden Türk: The Gospel of Secularism
Eventually the Russian nation will wake up and Putin will be gone one way or the other – for the past is a great predictor of the future.
Gratitude for all your efforts passing our petition onwards through social media.
Have a Great Easter wherever you are.
Love
Neil xxx
