It has been 80 days since Ismail Alwahwah has been detained in Jordan, without charge. He was told he is being detained for posts on Facebook critical of the Jordan regime, posted while in Australia. Yet:
He has been detained for 80 days now without charge.
He has been placed in Solitary Confinement one week into his arrest,
He has been given 15 mins of outdoor sunlight time per week!
BUT today, the situation has become a lot worse...
He has been transferred to another prison, not any prison, but to the worst possible: the infamous Al-Muwaqqar 2 prison. In the middle of the desert, 45 km's away from Amman, Al-Muwaqqar 2 is Jordan's 'Supermax' prison, infamous for its terrible conditions, poor treatment of prisoners, and horrible track record.
From time to time at Al-Muwaqqar 2, prison security would savagely beat up all the prisoners, one by one.
Ismail Alwahwah is now at a solitary confinement in Al-Muwaqqar. His disc has aggravated and is giving him a really hard time now, due to the inhumane transfer to the new prison, where he was seated in tight space at the back of a police van, with his hands and legs chained. A 45 km''s trip on some of Jordan's worst road (rough) conditions.
The Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trading's (DFAT) position has been shameful. The family of Ismail wonders if DFAT's position still stands?! That "we have no reason to believe that Mr Alwahwah's arrest and detention are not in accordance with Jordan's law" in the words of DFAT..... This is despite the fact that numerous lawyers in Jordan have challenged this and said that Ismail Alwahwah's case should be handled by the Civil Court system (if indeed what he committed constitutes a crime in the first place) and not the GID / State Security Courts.
