Kampanya güncellemesiStop Open-Pit Mining from happening around the Canadian Rockies!February Update: Almost Complete Victory, But Not Done Yet!

Good afternoon everybody!

I have excellent news to share: the Alberta Government has reinstated the 1976 Coal Policy! Energy Minister Sonya Savage announced this on Monday, February 8. As a result, the old (and good!) policy will remain in place until public consultation is done. This is excellent news, as we have demonstrated that ordinary citizens are the ones who control the government. With organized and dedicated efforts, we have managed to convince the Alberta Government to reinstate the policy!

That being said, the Government of Alberta is still going ahead with plans to build the Grassy Mountain Open Pit Mine. We cannot let this happen. Any new open pit mines built in Alberta will place tremendous stress on wildlife, destroy pristine areas, and contaminate water supplies. With the harmful effects of climate change starting to be felt, we cannot afford to compromise our environment, and especially not our water supplies. As such, despite our HUGE victory, we need to make sure it is a decisive one. We will update everyone whenever there is an opportunity for action, so stay tuned.

A BIG thank you to everyone who left a comment on the federal webpage, who sent an email to both levels of government, and to everyone who signed this petition. Our movement to preserve our natural environment will succeed as long as we all unite to protect it.

With hope and determination,

Concerned Citizens of Alberta's Administrator
