Restore funding to the Plain Language Society to translate papers into plain language.
The Issue
Plain language is like a ramp to help people with developmental disabilities participate in society as full citizens. If government thinks Braille and ASL interpreters are a right for people who are blind or deaf, why is plain language not also a right that they support? People with learning difficulties, those who come from other countries, and people under stress all benefit when forms, rules, rental leases, surveys, instructions, manuals and other papers are in plain language. The Plain Language Society was a group of adults with developmental disabilities whose job was to put papers into words everybody could understand.
