Protectionism and self preservation

Hi Everyone, I would like to thank you all for signing the petition so far. It looks like the US gave conditional approval to Keystone today. One of the conditions is that the pipeline be built by Americans using American steel. I can't say I disagree with this position. Good for them for standing up for themselves, but also bad for us for not standing up for what is right and what we truly believe in. This petition has only been signed by only 1% of the people who viewed it. By my account this is pretty low. Do the people who refuse to sign disagree or feel differently? Sadly no. They are worried about having negative consequences by signing the petition. For the sake of self preservation and fear of consequence the are not standing up for what they believe in. Too bad for us. I personally had a conversation recently with someone who told me they wouldn't sign because they are the workshare coordinator at their work place and they fear the optics of signing. Please note that when anyone signs, it's anonymous unless you leave a comment and choose to leave your name. For those who have done so, hats off to you. I too fear the consequences of starting this petition, but I understand I can support the petition and remain anonymous if that is my choice and for now it is. So please share, and inform your contacts that their names will not be public unless they choose them to be. We need to have a true representation of how deep this issue is to us to achieve proper influence. So, please share, talk about the issue, and encourage action based on conviction rather than fear.
