Havant Bough Council get 23 Million pounds a year from tax payers money, this is meant to fund the towns safety. However, this is not the case, a member of Havant Bough Council has stated that they are trying to cut cost buy removing  CCTV cameras from the local areas. They have been switched off for the last 3 years.

The council have also turned off the street lights in residential areas between the hours of 1am - 4am starting on the 1st of April 2019, this is to save money. I believe that this will increase crime as there will not be eye witnesses due to lack of light. Additionally with out CCTV cameras to catch and record the crime taking place there is even more cause for concern

There has been criminal activity in the local area over the last 3 years, this includes a shooting, children being groomed, iPads being stolen from a local school and youths driving motorbikes on the paths where pedestrians walk. How can this be justified to remove CCTV cameras and streetlights, When local areas are being aesthetically improved by removing old bushes and replacing them with flowers which would have costed money how is this acceptable to pick how things look over safety?

The reason given for this action taken was that there is no data to show that the local area of Widley has crime between the hours of 1am to 4am. Surely the way forward to keep the families in Widley and surrounding areas safe is prevention.

This is not in just widley this is in the whole of Hampshire this is affected.
