This statue is an odious symbol of white supremacy. While removing a statue does not change anything on the ground for anyone facing ongoing white supremacist oppression, this is still no justification for letting a monument stand that is dedicated to defending the worst in humanity. It is time for Alachua County to renounce its identification with this symbol of bigotry.
