TU&I COMMITTEE - PLEASE GIVE US THE RIGHT TO VOTE ON HB 467

The Issue

Our sewer rates in Shelby County, have went up 214% or more since 2007. HB 467 would give us the right to vote in regards to this important issue. Once out of committee with a favorable opinion, a "Yes" vote in the House, and a "Yes" vote in the Senate, we could vote to put these Privatized Sewer Systems under the Public Service Commission. This is a local issue and we should have this right.

If we do not get this right, then Southwest Water Company, Double Oak Water Reclamation and Riverview will continue to raise the rates to whatever they want to with no oversight. DOWR where I live, has raised it's rates at least 8% every year from 2007-2016 and we currently pay $81 for water going out, while we pay $25-$29 a month for water coming in. They are now in the process of selling their company to SWWC which currently charges their customers $112 a month which is $30 more a month than we are paying. We NEED the help of the Public Service Commission to oversee and vote on any and all rate increases from these utility companies. They are monopoly's who give us the choice of paying whatever they want us to, or moving. That is not really a choice.

We are asking the Transportation Utilities and Infrastructure committee to immediately send HB 467 to be voted on by the House, and asking the House to vote "Yes" and then the Senate to also vote "Yes". This will put it into the hands of the people of Shelby County so that we can vote on it.

Please sign this petition if you live in Shelby County and you cannot make it to the Public Hearing on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018.
