I have been keeping a close eye on Agony Autie, Sara Harvey's public page since her latest incident caught the public’s attention.
Despite repeated claims that they are ‘sorry’, a member of Northern Rail staff has reached out to Sara to tell her that he believes her mobility aid should not be allowed on their trains. After giving various reasons on her public page (none of which pan out because Sara’s scooter can and has been aboard their trains safely - repeatedly), the self-advertised for Northern Rail instructor/driver, then set out to call Sara a ‘stupid, idiot woman’ and accused her of causing trouble on their trains. This was via a post on his own page. He claims that she is a liar and implied that she is attention-seeking and trying to block the truth.
However, the #scootergirl campaign is trying hard to expose the truth about the realities of travel for disabled people in the UK. This sort of discrimination is rife among Northern Rail staff and this spokesperson seems to bear out the perceived opinion that disabled people are not welcome… unless they can stop being disabled and carry on their mobility aids.
The image has been edited to remove personal pictures but the posts are public and he intends for all to see them. The name has also been blocked out due to privacy concerns although the individual had the post visible for half an hour. Note - The post disappeared after Sara herself warned him that she had reported the it to Northern.
It’s been called a witch-hunt but it’s not a campaign to attack and shame one bigot; this is about their policy and the atmosphere of discrimination that is rife among Northern’s staff.
She has met with this twice in person and Tanyalee Davis has had the same issues.
This is also not the first member of Northern staff to approach Sara via her page to comment.
How many members of staff need to be publicly pointed out displaying this attitude before Northern admit that they have a massive issue and take meaningful action to handle this matter?
