Tell the truth about Cannabis and Crohn's Disease!

I have lived with Crohn's disease for about a decade now. If it wasn't for the relief cannabis offers me I don't know how I could have mentally or physically made it through this illness. Crohn’s and Colitis Canada stands between me and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients knowing the truth about cannabis.

The only mention of cannabis on the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada's web site is in their "Dear Doctor" column. I have read the doctor's response and unfortunately I find much of what he said to be inaccurate and/or misleading. For example, the doctor claims, "There may be more specific and safer ways to provide clinical benefit." I have a very large stack of research articles that confirm cannabis is safer than aspirin. Can this doctor name something else that has a better safety record than aspirin? I asked Crohn’s and Colitis Canada to answer this question, which their representatives refuse to do. I have tried to reason with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada for over a year now, all I can do is assume that they are lying about Cannabis on their website to protect their funding sources. In other words, Crohn's and Colitis Canada is misleading patients over money, or, simply refusing to be brave and stand up against the Canadian Medical Association/Big Pharma. Cannabis is never going to be the Western medicine that the Canadian Medical Association wants it to be but it is safe and does relieve pain -- patients have a right to know that truth and try this medicine.

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada isn't willing to address my concerns about the inaccurate and grossly biased information on their website and I believe this is because one of their "Silver Sponsors" makes HUMIRA, which every person I know with Crohn's disease is on right now, other than myself. HUMIRA is an extremely expensive drug (around $800 per injection) that my friends inject themselves with weekly and is known to cause serious infections and cancer. So ... I guess Crohn’s and Colitis Canada would rather kids die of cancer than get "high" from cannabis?

Please know I do really appreciate everything Crohn’s and Colitis Canada does for those affected by IBD. Cannabis has saved the quality of my life but I am doing this because I witnessed a family friend experience relief from his Crohn’s Disease symptoms for the first time in 20 years, thanks to cannabis, shortly before he passed away from this terrible illness. I don’t want others to suffer needlessly for 20 years, like he did. I am doing this in his honour and I will not give up.

Update: Crohn's and Colitis Canada have taken down a few of the most misleading sentences, such as "There may be more specific and safer ways to provide clinical benefit." This is a huge victory but one that took far too long. Let's keep this petition going until they take down all the misleading info, for example, this sentence -- "However, small studies evaluating cannabis have had design flaws, and therefore to date there is no good scientific evidence to support its use."

The doctor goes on to state that Marinol "may be an option" for patients "who have an open dialogue with their physicians."

Um, no. Cannabis IS a safe and legal option for ALL Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients.
