What next? What do we do? requesting suggestions.
Dear Nurses
I am Jomet Mani, basically a Social Worker who completed Master of Social Work and worked in different NGOs and currently working as Social Worker at Monash Health Melbourne Australia. I am an Australian Citizen who is a migrant from India.
Why I am interested in overseas nurses’ issue?
I would like to introduce myself and my intentions to move forward with this petition as we are not getting any result out of this till now.
I have reached in Australia as a student in 2010 and migrated as Social worker. I have worked in a college for around 5 years as nurses Bridging Program clinical placement coordinator and placement officer. I am very much aware about whole process of AHPRA registration and changes took place in last 2 decades.
Currently I do business for Education Consulting and Australian Migration and our specialty is Nurses registration process and Migration. My business as follows
YESTE Consulting Pty Ltd (Australia) – Trading as YESTE Migration Consulting- Which is located in Australia and providing support for Australian student visa and Migration.
YESTE Properties Pvt Ltd (India) – Real-estate business- Property development and construction
Youth Exchange Skills Training & Education (YESTE) Charitable Trust (India)- focusing completely of Education and up-skilling of Youth and providing support for education of unprivileged children.
YESTE Consulting deals with around 200 nurses in a year and currently we have around 100 nurses who are registered with us and waiting for admission. If we have around 100 nurses, we can imagine other big agencies have more than 150 to 250 nurses waiting for admission. Also, there is lot more applicants who applied directly to AHPRA. I know how much each nurse spending and how hard it is to get AHPRA registration. Every year around 1500 nurses migrating to Australia.
As I worked with nurses for last 10 years, and nurses are my bread and butter for last 10 years I decided to do something for Nurses. I am doing it to fulfil my roles as Social worker and an individual’s duty of care.
Nurses Migration to Australia
Australia is benefiting all the ways from Nurses migration process. Without Nurses Australian Health care system can’t stand alone or can’t provide service which they suppose to provide.
Around 15-20 years before Australia started promoting nurse migration and at that time there was only 6 to 10 weeks program which conducted in hospitals. Then later it changed to colleges and Universities. Mostly colleges started running nurses bridging program and AHPRA fee for registration was only $150. Even AHPRA supported nurses who done Secondary Education in English where there was real shortage of nurses in work force. Till now we didn’t hear any major issues or nurse’s error because nurses overseas training or registration path way process.
Till AHPRA increasing standard nursing registration process and standards every year and overseas nurses coping with every situation. YES we understand that nurses who lives in developing countries looking for better working environment and living standard and that’s why looking for work opportunities in Australia.
Who is ultimately benefiting from skilled professional recruitment process? What all are the benefits Australia getting out of Nurses registration process and migration?
If only 1500 nurses applying for registration every year and around 800 nurses migrating to Australia
1. AHPRA- Registration assessment fee- $740 X 1500 nurses every year- $1110000 (More than 1 Million income)
2. Fit to work- As AHPRA insist to do International Criminal check with Private company each nurse spend around $300 X 1500 = $450000 (Nearly half a million)
3. Insurance $350 on average - $525000 (Nearly half a Million)
4. Bridging program fee - $14300- $185000.
$16000 X1500 = $240000000 (on an average 24 million)
5. Accommodation & other expenses on an average $8000 X1500 = $12000000 (around 12 Million)
6. Migration Agent Consultation Fee to agent around $4000 for a family X 800 = $3200000 (Around 3 Million)
7. Government Migration or work visa fee on an average $8000 per family X 1500 ($12000000 (around 12 Million)
ANMAC income and other state government fees are not including
Total around – 15 Million Total income (which is Half Billion)
As per my understanding no other countries benefiting this much through skilled labour recruitment process and still government or authorities are not ready to protect this industry.
How to protect nurses’ rights?
After starting the Campine I realised that there is no one there to support or protect you while you are overseas.
1. AHPRA don’t care about you, they just constantly care about increasing assessment fee for overseas nurses and protecting their income.
2. ANMAC- They clearly mentioned that AHPRA must support you and they don’t have any role in this matter. ANMAC has major role in this matter as ANMAC is the body which provide approval for all nurse registration programs and ANMAC implemented new regulations to Bridging program courses and cancelled accreditation of all colleges. Also, they didn’t took any steps to resolve issues which exist in the market even NMBA, AHPRA & ANMAC suppose to work together.
3. ANMF- They are Nurses union but won’t care about overseas nurse issues. Think about it once you become registered nurse in Australia. You may need another union who protect overseas nurse interest.
The only option what I could see is to go for a legal fight. But that cost lot and we need to join hands together to do it. Australian legal system is expensive and even legal consultation will cost a lot. If everyone who signed on this petition ready to stand together could make a change.
Donating $100 by those who waiting with decision itself will make enough money to proceed with legal procedures. All the amount which you deposit will be publicly announced and accountable. If anyone of you knows any legal advisor who is cost effective, please feel free to suggest.
I request your suggestions in this matter before start collecting money. If any better ideas, we could try but need to act fast as most of the people getting frustrated as their English exam and AHPRA decision letter validity almost expired.
Mean time I really would suggest all of you to register for UK, Ireland or New Zealand Nurses registration process before your English exam validity get expired.
