Ottawa's Dima Siam, a pregnant Syrian refugee, is considering a hunger strike to win the same permanent resident status recently granted to over 25,000 other Syrians. Hopefully, it won't have to go that far. You can help her receive the perfect Mother's Day Gift by sending a brief message to John McCallum, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and Arif Virani, Parliamentary Secretary to Mr. McCallum. These two men can immediately approve Dima Siam's humanitarian and compassionate application (H&C), recognize that there are no barriers to granting her permanent resident status immediately, and end the years of limbo under which she and her family (three Canadian children and a Canadian husband) have suffered, all due to a simple paperwork error and further delays due to government mistakes in misapplying their own policies. Dima is depressed and suffering with this cloud hanging over her head. Her children are anxious and upset. The family cannot live a normal life. Despite being pregnant, Dima is considering a hunger strike to ensure that she and her family do not have to endure years more of debilitating limbo while under threat of deportation to Syria. ACTION: Please Email Minister John McCallum (john.mccallum@parl.gc.ca) and Parliamentary Secretary Arif Virani (Arif.Virani@parl.gc.ca) and cc tasc@web.ca In the Subject line: Grant Dima Siam PR Status in Time for Mother's Day In the body of the email: Please write a brief note with your name and town explaining why you think Dima Siam, a Syrian refugee already living in Canada, should have permanent resident status in Canada, and why the endless wait should end. Also express your concern that she is so desperate that she is considering a hunger strike. Urge that her H&C application be reviewed and approved by Mother's Day. The Minister has the discretion to do this. More information on her case at: https://www.change.org/p/john-mccallum-grant-syrian-refugee-and-ottawa-resident-dima-siam-permanent-residency-in-canada
