More than half of all U.S. Congress members are millionaires, a status that is significantly less common among the general American public.

Sources indicate stocks bonds business assets real estate, development adding to the extra portfolio of most leading members. Same data and records found at the local level and state level agencies.

Some members of Congress get three figure yearly pay for just 3 months of work or under giving them opportunity to invest their time and other assets and areas.

under the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, but these often report asset values in wide ranges, making it difficult to pinpoint exact net worth. Financial watchdog groups like OpenSecrets use specific methodologies to estimate these figures.

Wealth Sources: Much of the wealth in Congress is derived from investments and assets (such as real estate, stocks, and business holdings) acquired before or during their time in office, rather than their congressional salaries (which are a baseline of $174,000 per year for most members as of 2025).

Ask yourself do you feel they use their title and political career to become a

part-time millionaire?
