THANK YOU for your support! We are currently over 100 signatures. Please help us gather more by sharing on social media and asking your family and friends to show their support for our grant request. The Kane County Executive Board is reviewing our request this Wednesday morning, September 4th. Here is an excerpt from our grant request letter;

"The Flag Day Monument is a national caliber monument that not only celebrates the symbol of our great Nation, but it was also conceived as a response to the global pandemic crisis, symbolizing the strength and perseverance of the American people. The FVPO recognized the pandemic’s negative impact on our community’s tourism and economy and strived to create a safe space for groups to gather, learn and be inspired by the heroic efforts made by so many Americans to overcome adversity. The monument is designed to be an interactive, outdoor space where visitors can learn about our nation’s history and honor all those we have lost and all the first responders and frontline workers who have served and continue to serve our great country.

Moreover, the project is poised to boost local tourism by creating a new landmark in Kane County. In response to the decrease in tourism to Kane County due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the FVPO created a monument which now serves as a point of interest for visitors seeking to engage with our nation’s rich history and the collective experiences in an outdoor venue considered to be “COVID friendly”. The monument’s strategic location and its significance and symbolism are expected to draw visitors from across the state and beyond, thereby stimulating economic growth and revitalization in the area.

At the start of the project, the FVPO projected the total cost of the monument’s construction to be approximately $750,000. Unfortunately, with the COVID Pandemic, our project was put on hold and the economy’s continued inflation post pandemic directly impacted our organization financially resulting in increased construction and labor costs. Post Pandemic costs more than doubled the original budget creating a huge challenge for our non-profit organization.

We believe that the Flag Day Monument aligns with the objectives of the American Rescue Plan Act by addressing the public health emergency caused by COVID-19 and its negative economic impacts. The project will also contribute to the preservation and celebration of our cultural heritage, which is more important than ever during these challenging times. We are committed to making The Flag Day Monument a symbol of hope and recovery for Kane County and the nation. Your support through the American Rescue Plan Act funding would be instrumental in bringing this vision to life. The FVPO is requesting $300,000 which will be used by the organization for the following initiatives:

• $250,000 expenses previously incurred from Statewide & Regional marketing and
advertising initiatives increasing awareness and shaping the Flag Day Monument
into an outdoor, COVID friendly tourist attraction and destination for Kane County.
• $50,000 used to pay construction expenses incurred during 2022 and 2023
construction period."
