The Issue

Early Childhood Education students are required to complete unpaid placements as part of their course, without receiving financial support. This can make it difficult to manage college work, part-time jobs and everyday living expenses while completing the placement requirements.

On top of completing unpaid placements, students often have to pay for their own travel to and from placement settings and cover the cost of resources themselves, adding further financial pressure.

Many students choose this course because they care about children and want to make a difference in their lives. However the financial pressure of unpaid placements can make an already demanding course even more challenging.

Early Childhood Education students deserve recognition and support for the work they do during placements. While students in some other courses may receive payment or financial support through internships and apprenticeships, Early Childhood Education students are often expected to complete mandatory placements without compensation. All students deserve to have their time, effort, and commitment recognised, and those completing essential placements should not be overlooked when it comes to financial support.

We are calling on the government, colleges, and everyone involved in Early Childhood Education to listen to students’ concerns and help make a change. We ask for your support in ensuring that students completing mandatory placements are not left struggling financially. Introducing financial assistance or fair compensation would make a real difference and help ensure that no student is disadvantaged for completing an essential part of their education. Together, we can work towards a fairer system that supports and values future early childhood educators.

No student should have to face financial hardship to complete their education and pursue a career they are passionate about.

Please sign and share this petition to support fairer treatment and financial support for Early Childhood Education students. Investing in future educators means investing in our children's futures.
