Advocate for a car-free planet

The Issue

I know firsthand the devastating impact that cars can have on our lives and our planet. I was one of the many victims of a major collision, which left me with significant injuries and a deep-seated resolve to prevent such tragedies from happening to others. This personal experience has driven me to advocate for a change - a drastic change - one that reimagines our world without the overwhelming presence of cars.

The statistics are staggering. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. Furthermore, vehicles contribute to 15% of global carbon dioxide emissions, exacerbating climate change and threatening the health of our planet. Congestion in cities causes billions of dollars in lost productivity and contributes to high levels of air pollution, which in turn causes numerous health issues, from respiratory problems to asthma.

Imagine a world where cities are designed for people, not cars. Safe, vibrant urban spaces filled with parks, walkable streets, and cycle paths. Public transport that is efficient, accessible, and affordable for everyone. A shift towards a car-free existence would not only mitigate traffic-related injuries and fatalities but also drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance the quality of life for people everywhere.

Transitioning to a car-free world involves big changes, but it's possible. Cities like Oslo and Amsterdam have already made significant strides, limiting vehicle access in certain areas and investing in pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Policy changes such as investing in public transit, promoting alternative modes of transportation like biking and walking, and creating car-free zones are essential steps we can adopt globally.

Join me in advocating for a car-free planet. Let’s push for policies that promote sustainable urban development and elevate public transport solutions. By signing this petition, you’ll be lending your voice to a crucial movement that aims to make our world safer, healthier, and more sustainable for future generations.
