Ban the XLS-medical television advert that preys on young, female insecurities.

Ban the XLS-medical television advert that preys on young, female insecurities.

The Issue

There is advert currently running on British television for a slimming pill called XLS-medical.  The advert features two young women, who could be anything from 17 to 25. The advert features mobile texting and shows the two girls complaining about not fitting into their holiday clothes. The advert is clearly targetting young, female minds and using body image insecurities to sell slimming pills.  We have a responsibility to our young women to promote positive, body image and the notion of feeling happy in themselves. We should not be allowing adverts that encourages them to take slimming pills. The fact that the two young women in the advert are complaining about their weight when there's not a scrap of fat on them is almost irrelevant as it's more about the message this advert sends.  Almost irrelevant, but not. As any woman not shaped like a model will be watching this and feeling awful about themselves. It plays on insecurities and it's aimed at a demographic that is vulnerable and should be encouraged to feel happy with themselves not encouraged to take slimming tablets. It is deeply damaging to young, female minds. Let's get it OFF the tv.
