Political Interference For Point Scoring.

Why should supporters sign our petition and support our campaign? There are many reasons for signing. Based on a "grey area" of the Law with no clearly defined judgement by a court on how it should be interpreted? I Quote the following ..."Michael Masutha, South Africa's Justice and Correctional Services Minister, stepped in after a women's group urged him to halt the transfer by using a petition with only a reported 80 signatures. Masutha claimed that according to his interpretation of the Correctional Services Act Pistorius was only eligible to be "considered" for parole after ten months in prison. Therefore, the parole board's decision had been premature"...Un-quote. But a sentencing expert and professor at the University of South Africa, had said it was common for parole boards to make decisions about inmates before the minimum sentence was up and rare for a justice minister to get involved in such a case. It was further suggested by AP 15,000 offenders were released under correctional supervision during 2014 in this way without interference from the justice department. In contradiction, the Justice Department, South Africa wants to amend a section of the Criminal Procedures Act dealing with criminal records in a bid to give former offenders a second chance, Minister Michael Masutha indicated during his budget vote speech in Parliament and we do agree that everyone does deserve a second chance including Oscar Pistorius! However, Undercurrent Political forces has a role in determining how long prisoners should remain in prison for is certainly going to cause some problems and with it many questions and then arguments. If the reveiw team decides Oscar Pistorius date was too early then they will have to review every other case which may have serious consequences for many thousands of inmates that could quite possibly cause delays of months or perhaps even years which could lead to Human Rights challenges in the Constitutional Court. To quote a retired Judge who has warned of political interference in the country and fought to strengthen the independence of the judiciary. He claims politics is not "sneaking into South African law" it is "galloping in thunderously". We hope Mr Michael Masutha, South Africa's Justice and Correctional Services Minister, provides our petition the best serious level of attention just as he provided the Women's League petition and release Oscar Pistorius immediately.
