Alllow Chinese, Polish, Serbian & Turkish children in Sydney to learn their language
The issue
We are seeking your immediate assistance to secure a new location for the Saturday School of Community Languages (SSCL) - Randwick Centre, which focuses on Chinese, Polish, Serbian & Turkish languages. We believe that the takeover of the current site by Randwick Public School in Term 4 of this year should not be treated as an excuse to shut down the Randwick Centre, and leave the kids from those communities without an opportunity to learn their language.
We urge you to rectify the decisions made so far by the Department of Education regarding closing of the Randwick Centre. All children deserve to have access to free public education, and the right to learn their community language in a location close to their homes in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.
A great location for the Randwick Centre is available nearby - Randwick Girls’ High School, located approximately 800 metres from the current site, close to public transport and in the heart of the Eastern Suburbs. The Randwick Centre requires six classrooms and a staff room to operate. Randwick Girls’ High School has such facilities, and does not host any groups or organisations on the weekends.
Do not strip the Chinese, Polish, Serbian and Turkish kids from the right to learn their community language!
