Before anything else, I want to say thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who signed this petition after hearing about Owain and the postcode lottery that meant his brain tissue wasn’t stored properly.

Most people have never heard of tissue freezing – I hadn’t either. It simply means preserving part of a tumour so it can be used to make personalised treatments, diagnose patients more accurately, and for cutting-edge research. When tissue isn’t frozen, patients lose access to all these options and most of them don’t even know this has happened until it’s too late.

That is what happened to Owain. Because his tissue wasn’t properly stored, he lost access to treatments that could have given him more time.

Today, the same thing is still happening to families across the country, simply because of where they live and how their local hospital works.

Owain’s Law could change this. It would make proper tissue freezing standard across the NHS and give thousands of patients more time, more choices, and more hope. But for that to happen, MPs need to understand what people are losing under the current system.

On 3rd February, families will be in Parliament sharing our stories. For many MPs, this is their one chance to truly listen. And they are far more likely to do so when they hear from you – their constituent.
