Dear Elephant Protectors,
At the start of this at the beginning of the summer of 2016, I mentioned there would be many legal proceedings to legally get the baby elephants that were illegally captured from the forest, back under the protection of the Sri Lanka Dept. of Wildlife Conservation (DWC). And let’s be clear, capturing a baby elephant requires killing the mother and any other elephants trying to protect the baby elephant. Please keep forwarding this petition for signatures, as I do hear that this notoriety and embarrassment of having Sri Lanka’s corruption on display for the world to see, is helping.
Baby elephants are big money and a status symbol for Sri Lanka’s corrupt rich and they are put to work in “cultural” events and places to make money. There was a court order 9 months ago in Feb 2016 to return the illegally –captured baby elephants, however the illegal owners did not return them. Subsequent court decisions were eventually successful in recovering the baby elephants from the illegal owners for DWC custodianship, including one named Bhanu. If the courts were functioning ethically, the illegally-caught baby elephant would be seized and placed under the custody of the DWC while the case in court. However, the illegal captor's attorney filed a request to NOT take Ganga until the matter is settled in the Supreme Court AND the Attorney General has not objected to this request!!!. The illegal captors want to continue making money off of Ganga while they continue to delay this case in court.
Unfortunately for Ganga, she is being held by someone with very high level connections making a lot of money off her slavery. You can read this article to connect the dots: http://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/illegally-captured-elephants-in-sri-lanka-temples/
The people who are responsible for this continued corruption and protecting Ganga’s illegal owner are:
1. The Attorney General Dept: Dileepa Peiris
2. Magistrate, Gihan Pilapitiya
3. Illegal captor's lawyer, President's Counsel: Prasantha de Alwis
4. The name of owner on record who is protecting the real owner is BDD Amaradewa Malwatte of Rajjuru Bandara Shrine, Urumuththa Estate, Akuressa.
This recent article provides a summary of who is involved. http://dailynews.lk/2016/10/14/local/95967 And an article with a picture of the involved: http://www.pressreader.com/sri-lanka/daily-mirror-sri-lanka/20141229/281539404317635/
