Adequate Parking Facilities for HGV Drivers

Adequate Parking Facilities for HGV Drivers

The Issue

This petition is to raise awareness of the issues faced by HGV drivers across the uk with the lack of adequate rest areas available to them at a reasonable/no cost. With the DVSA imposing more regulations on drivers from 4/11/17 preventing HGV drivers stopping for their 45 hour legal weekly rest break in lay-bys/off road areas and forcing them into overpriced service areas on A roads/Motorways we demand that the government/department of transport start providing adequate, safe, hygienic and reasonably priced rest areas with a good standard of food and facilities. This is imperative to road safety and to support an essential industry which is a huge part of the UK , This will enable it to continue and attract new drivers. Drivers face being treated as a nuisance on the roads and have to put up with a lack of basic facilities/poor conditions just to go about their daily working lives, many staying away from their homes and families all week. We,the undersigned urge this issue to be heard and debated in parliament at the earliest opportunity.
