Our Ugandan team has completed their initial meetings with members of the Ugandan parliament. The general consensus from the meetings was that legislation is indeed important and all of the members with whom our legal representatives met expressed support for the law. This is very good news!
The main point of feedback that our legal team received was that RISE needs to do additional survivor interviews to 'prove' the extent of the problem. During our initial round of in-person interviews/data collection, survivor peer researchers met with approximately 70 survivors. Legislators are suggesting that we need to document all known survivors, so our research team (now being led by Daniel and Julie, pictured above), will be reaching out to a few hundred more survivors over the phone to gather demographic information and information about their attack. This research will be taking place in the coming weeks. We will share updates!
