I have been working with acid attack survivors for almost 10 years and Judith's case is one that is so difficult for me to think about because it makes me so emotional. Judith had a good paying job. She was the breadwinner in her home. Her life changed completely after the attack. She lost sight. She has to stay inside the house and wait for everything. She had two cars before the attack but sold them. She sold off some of the houses the husband left her with to pay for surgeries. She can't do anything now but only to rely on other people. The acid attack also caused her a heart problem because she inhaled some acid.
Our organization (now called Hope Care Rescue Mission) demonstrated at Nakawa court when we learned her perpetrator was going to be let out on bail. He did not get bail and after three years of going free after the attack, he was finally sentenced. But unfortunately, he was only sentenced for four and a half years and was not required to pay any compensation to Judith.
